About 3 years ago I felt pain and discomfort in my right shoulder after a sporting injury, we had gone on a long-haul flight and the condition became worse. At the time someone mentioned trying cryotherapy at a clinic in Birmingham. 

As a healthcare professional I saw the logic in cold therapy but was quite sceptical about the benefit of using extremely low temperatures as opposed to an ice pack. 

The therapist conducted a localised treatment, which lasted no more than 10 minutes and advised it may take several visits to see benefit, however I may notice a more immediate reaction. 

I walked out of the clinic got into my car and began to drive home. During my journey I realised I was not thinking about the pain in my shoulder and realised the pain and discomfort had gone and did not return, I was extremely impressed. My immediate reaction was to try and get such a treatment option to the North East. 

Having worked in pharmacy for over 30 years and the care home sector for 10 years, I constantly came across pain management issues and the over prescribing of medication. This seemed the ideal way of reducing our over reliance on pain relieving medication and utilising the body’s own mechanism to alleviating pain symptoms. 

Madhu and I installed our first localised machine 6 months after my treatment in our clinic in Yarm, Stockton on Tees. The localised machine has proven successful for many clients in treating pain related symptoms. 

It became obvious to us that cryotherapy was a leap forward to using an ice pack or ice bath treatment as we found that the rate of recovery improved. We took the decision last year to bring a Whole Body Cryochamber to the North East, the first of its kind in our region. Research has shown Whole Body Cryotherapy speeds up the rate of recovery from intense training/gameplay and injury.
